It’s a drought, stupid!

Now that we have caught your attention with an unnecessarily harsh and provocative title, the team softens the rhetoric and announces in a civil manner that almost half the U.S. is experiencing drought conditions. us-drought-map2.jpgThat’s the bad news. The good news is that the linked article and this interactive map tell the story so that we don’t have to!

In other ominous drought-related news, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Bush administration officials are meeting with Georgia Governor Perdue to discuss northern Georgia’s water problems. Terrified Georgia residents were further alarmed when Perdue later dropped this bomb at a press conference:

We’ve had very productive, candid and frank discussions about a very complex issue.

Perdue, apparently unhinged by being forced to deal with a pesky potential disaster that is taking him away from his administration’s core initiatives, see here and here, ended the press conference with a chilling prediction:

I am confident the president of the United States will not allow Georgia citizens to run out of drinking water.
